Germerode, Hesse, Germany
Germerode, Hessen, Germany, builds its development process on the existing potentials such as the historic monastery complex, the educational institution „Altes Forsthaus“, gastronomy and the wildlife park, business- and crafts enterprises along with many active clubs, but also new ventures.
Thanks to an inspiration from Austria, Germerode is characterized by the theme of the poppy flower. The innovative marketing approach integrates agriculture, the production of regional specialties and local distribution and works well as an attraction for tourists visiting the “Geo-Naturpark Frau Holle-Land”. The promotion of employment opportunities in sync with local conditions and regional value chains is an exemplary success.
The monastery preservation society, which includes many villagers, takes care of the unique cultural heritage. Thanks to the evangelical Communität Koinonia, Germerode becomes the center of spirituality and reflection.
Of all the activities of numerous clubs, the initiative of the association “Dorfzentrum Germerode” is especially noteworthy. It aims to develop the village in a way that is more suitable for the elderly and more family-friendly, for example, with barrier-free housing for young and old. With the opening of the village store with a café, it has been possible to ensure the basic supply in the village.
